7月18日から8月4日まで岡山県と広島県内を国際青年リレー行進するマニシャ・ガウルさんのあいさつ（日英）を紹介します。

平和の友人のみなさん、おはようございます。

まず最初に、平和行進実行委員会と原水協のみなさんが、この平和行進を組織され、日常的にさまざまな素晴らしい活動に取り組んでおられることに対して、心からの称賛をお送りします。

また、この平和行進に参加する機会を下さった原水協に感謝を申し上げます。

ひとつの物語を紹介しながら、ごあいさつをさせていただきます。

あるところに、200人もの多くの弟子を持つ聖人がいました。聖人は、年老いてきたために、自分が死んだ後も活動を続けられる後継者を選ぼうと考えました。

そこで聖人は、選んだ10人の弟子を伴って旅に出ました。ある村を通りかかったとき、一行は農夫と牛に出会いました。農夫と牛は綱で結ばれており、一方の端は農夫の手に握られ、もう一方の端は牛につながっていました。そこで聖人は弟子たちに聞きました。「どちらが先でどちらが後だろうか？牛が農夫の後ろをついているのか、その反対か？」聞かれた弟子たちは、あまりに簡単な質問にびっくりしました。牛が農夫の後について歩いているに決まっている、農夫が牛を家に連れて帰るところなのは一目瞭然じゃないかと思ったのです。聖人は弟子一人一人に同じ質問をしましたが、全員同じ答えでした。

聖人はまた尋ねました。「もし私が綱を切ったらどうなるだろうか？どちらがどちらの後を追いかけることになるだろうか。牛が農夫を追いかけるのか、農夫が牛を追いかけるだろうか？」

弟子たちはまた答えました。「簡単なことです。牛が逃げ出すので、農夫が牛の後ろを追いかけることになります。」聖人は、「お前たちはやっと、牛が農夫の後を追うのではなく、農夫が牛の後を追うということが分かったのだね」と言いました。

この物語の教訓は何でしょうか。私たちは日々、様々な目的でいろいろな物を使います。ですがそれらを習慣やくせのように固定したものと考えて、自分たちの生活をそれらに合わせるようになってしまうのです。

核兵器という権力を手に持つことは、偉大さのシンボルではありません。ましてや核保有国が世界を支配していることの証拠でもないのです。

みなさんにお尋ねします。権力とは、他の国を破壊する能力のことなのでしょうか。何百万人もの罪のない人々の命を一瞬にして奪ったり、大量虐殺すると脅迫できる能力のことでしょうか？

いいえ、真の権力、力とは、人類を救う力であり、命を助けようとする意志であり、人々に基本的な生活必需品を提供し、人々の幸福のために努力することのはずです。

世界の人々に知らせましょう。核兵器という力を手にして満足している国々がありますが、彼らが追いかけているのは核兵器ではなく、実は「死」なのです。

私たち運動の側の圧力をもっともっと大きくしましょう。そして、死ではなく命を追い求めるよう、核保有国の方向を変えさせましょう。

A very Good Morning to all peace friends,

To begin with…… I want to congratulate the team of GENSUIKYO for their exceptional work in organizing this march and other events throughout the year.

I also thank GENSUIKYO for giving me the opportunity to participate in this march.

I want to start my talk with a story.

There was a saint having 200 students and many followers. As the saint became old he thought of choosing one nominee to keep his activities ongoing after his death.

So he starts his journey with 10 selected students by his side. While they are passing through a village they see a farmer with a cow and a rope between them, one corner of the rope is in the hand of farmer and other tied to cow.  Saint asks the students – who is behind whom?  Is cow behind the farmer or is it the other way round.  Each one of them surprised because the answer is very simple…it is obvious that the cow is behind farmer and farmer is bringing the cow home they thought.

Saint asked each one of them and got the same reply.

Then he asked – if I cut this rope what will happen? Who will run behind whom? Whether the cow will run behind farmer or farmer will run behind cow?

The students again answered- very simple sir, the cow will run away and the farmer will run behind the cow.

The saint then says -now you all can understand that cow is not behind the farmer……but the farmer is behind cow.

Moral of the story is  –  there are so many things we think we are using for different purposes but unknowingly they become our habit, our addictions, and we find our lives around them.

Having weapon power is not the symbol of greatness and definitely not the token for countries to run the world.

Let me ask this to you – do we understand power as the ability to destroy countries, ability to take millions of innocent lives in seconds, threatening others for mass murder….?

No, the actual power is the power to save humanity, the will to save lives, to avail them their basic needs and to work for their happy lives.

Let the world understand that those countries that are happy for their weapon power…..they are not running behind weapons.  But behind death.

LET’S MAKE OUR PRESSURE GROUP SO STRONG TO TURN THEM RUNNING BEHIND LIFE.
